Massage for Plantar Fasciitis

At our Birmingham Alabama Massage & Bodywork studio, we provide quality therapeutic massage services aimed at alleviating pain associated with Plantar Fasciitis.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

The plantar fascia is a thick band of connective tissue on the bottom of the foot that acts as a shock absorber to support the arch of the foot. The term Plantar Fasciitis translates is defined as “Inflammation of the plantar fascia”

What Causes Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar Fasciitis occurs when too much stress is applied to the bottom of the foot, causing minute tears in the Plantar Fascia which leads to inflammation of the tissue.

As a part of the healing process, scar tissue forms in and around these tears, drawing the fibers of the plantar fascia together. This is known as fascial adhesions and is what causes Plantar Fasciitis pain to become chronic.

What are the Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis?

Swelling, tenderness and pain in the heel or ball of the foot, especially when walking.

Massage for Plantar Fasciitis

When addressing Plantar Fasciitis with massage therapy the goal of the session is to literally break apart the fascial adhesions to give the Plantar Fascia a chance to heal properly and restore normal function to the tissue.

If you only want to address Plantar Fasciitis issues during your massage and bodywork session, a 30 minute session is the perfect amount of time to perform the techniques that we use to treat Plantar Fasciitis.
